Orlando Division: Health Care; What do the Changes Mean

The National government is trying to change Obama Care to something else… anything else! We don’t know yet what that means and I am not sure the Republicans know what that means! The Republican party is very divided in its priorities, from the far right to the soft middle. Unfortunately the middle republicans are being held hostage by the minority, yet united extreme right wing of the party. It is SO much easier to destroy things than to create things. The right wing can hold up Congress because the soft middle of the Republican party doesn’t have an alley on their right and has offended the Democrats on the left. They are caught in the middle without sufficient support to do much. What that leaves us with is the ability to destroy things but not the ability to rebuild them. Obama Care may be just the casualty of that situation. They will destroy it without a good replacement. I believe that we will see a significant reduction in coverage for people, particularly people with preexisting conditions. Unless they have a lot of money, they will be lost. Perhaps it has to be this way but it is a brutal way for civilized people to behave. Jimmy Kimmel said it well the other night on television, “otherwise healthy babies shouldn’t have to die because of how much their parents make”

Miami Division: China’s New Aircraft Carrier: What does it mean?

China announced this week that it has developed its own aircraft carrier. Previously they had purchased an aircraft carrier from Russia but now have built their own. China has reassured their neighbors and the world that they are not being provocative and have peaceful intentions. We must ask ourselves, why would a nation go to the expense of building an aircraft carrier if they don’t plan on using it to impose or protect interests far away from their shores. Now I don’t blame China nor fear it for it may very well be its “time in the sun” again. China has earned everything it has and has the right to protect its interests wherever they are.

I believe China is “ramping” up it capabilities as it becomes a more dominant force in the world. The United States, under President Trump has decided to significantly retreat from world duties thus leaving a void. While a void won’t last long. Look at Russia, Turkey, and see what happens in a void. We in the United States had better get used to a new world order because it isn’t coming … its here!!

Jacksonville Division: ISIS and our world

ISIS has the world waiting for their next crime. Today it was Paris France that was attacked by these criminals. They attack defenseless people with surprise attacks. These horrible crimes do get the worlds attention but I don’t believe they are achieving anything but disgust for their cause. Certainly no one can feel sorry for them. They demonstrate the worst human kind can devolve into. Crimes on a scale that shock good people around the world. They are a cancer among human beings. They cannot live without killing the very body that they attack. Certainly they will die as that seems to be the only logical conclusion to their choices. There are somethings that I cannot get into my head. These massive criminal acts are one of them. How could a thinking being do such things for any cause. ISIS has to stop if they really have a cause that they want to be successful in there quest. If God exists, surely these people will face their justice in the time to come. They really want to hope that there is no God.

Syria, North Korea, Russia, Iraq, Afghanistan; what does all this mean? The world has always had friction among its peoples. However uncomfortable that is, it is also natural. There will always be completion among peoples, it in our very DNA. Mankind didn’t become the Alpha species on earth by our passivity or physical strength. We dominate our worlds by our aggressive nature and ability to think. The unsettling aspect is that not all thoughts or intentions are in the best interests of the general public. In fact they seldom are. Men dominate for their own pleasure. The most aggressive men along with intelligence will always want more; its almost insatiable. The men who created the United States understood the nature of man but also understood the nature of mobs. The dominant ones will continue to take until the mob turns on them and the whole system crumbles, only to be rebuilt by another “strong” man. Know your history and you will know your future. Democracy, with all its faults appears to be the best system to short circuit this cycle as it can remove a leader before the leader destroys the very people and system he leads. Donald Trump appears to be the safety “fuse” that has been activated here in the USA. He represents the frustration of the public with the leaders of politics, sports, business and religion. The public wants them all thrown out. He is doing his part, albeit I suspect not for a long time but until the extreme practices of the others are caged for a while. consider the French or Russian revolutions and many others throughout time. “and the wheel turns one more time”

Atlanta Division: Attack on Syria

Earlier tonight military forces of the United States fired missiles into Syria in response to the Syrian government using chemical weapons on its own people. I am pleased that the team that Trump put together to handle security for the United States and many parts of the world took this decisive action. The criminal act of using chemical weapons needed to be responded to. Civilized people, who have the means to respond, like the United States needed to let this tyrant, and other wanna be tyrants know that barbaric behavior will be met with a punitive response. Russia must “stand down” on this action by the United States and I believe they will. Russia does not want to be seen as supportive of this sort of grand barbaric action. They are more subtle. Rarely do I agree with President Trump but I must on this case. I believe he did the right thing, and for the right reason.

As students travel more to our areas Curtis Protective Services is being asked to provide Safety/Security Officers for their protection. We are happy to provide this service but it requires additional training and additional equipment. We have found that parents who are left at home and the organizations that are providing the logistics of school trips are demanding a higher degree of accountability. Parents, guardians and the people running the businesses need to know that their safety and security programs can withstand scrutiny if something goes wrong. In addition to the hourly record being done, Curtis Protective Services now equips ALL Safety/Security Officers with hand held GPS devices to electronically and independently confirm where and when the officer checked in. The GPS devices are able to confirm the locations (within approximately 25 ft.) and the exact time the officer checked in. This record is sent by email to the client for their records as well as held at our HQ’s should the need arise. Officers can be required to “sign in” as often as the client dictates. The officer simply presses the Report button on that schedule. The client is satisfied, the trip provider is satisfied and covered for due diligence of the Security company and the security company is covered and able to prove competence and reliability.

St. Petersburg: Obama Care; Where do we go from here!

Today the United States Congress failed to replace Obama Care. After seven years of complaining and making Obama Care almost the exclusive fixation of the Republican party, they failed to have a plan that could win even Republicans. This is a disgrace. The men and women who complained about Obama Care for the past seven years didn’t even have a plan good enough for their own party to support. What the hell is wrong with these people!!! I can understand people disagreeing on an idea BUT when you are elected to govern, complaining alone is not enough, you have to have a alternative; to be negative is not good enough. The people who complained and didn’t have an alternative plan have forfeited their privilege to govern. They should be sent home ashamed of themselves for failing to do their DUTY. I am not asking that they win but not having an alternative plan is irresponsible. These people are to represent their constituents and have failed to do so. Members of Congress who complained about Obama Care and didn’t have a reasonable replacement; shame on you!!

Spring 2017 starts tomorrow, March 20,2017. This is a time of renewal in nature and we should also take advantage of nature’s cue on what to do in the coming days, weeks and months. There are many things that have happened this year that need renewal. Perhaps our trust in institutions would be a good place to start. In the United States it has become fashionable to criticize the establishment by criticizing our leaders, out banks, our religious groups. Well we have done significant “structural” damage to them and we will pay the price if we don’t stop being so unfairly critical. We all know and understand that individuals can fail, it seems to be our very nature but this does not necessarily extend to the institutions that these individuals were part of. Our politicians are good and honorable people, our banks are honest, our religions are well meaning and valuable to our very culture. Remember the words of a German after world war two who said that Germany was no more because it had all its institutions destroyed; he said “we are no longer a people, we are just a population”. Americans are better than that!!

The Republican health care plan has been assessed for its impact and it appears that up to 24 million Americans may loose their health insurance over the next ten years. As a people we have to decide if we are prepared for the consequences of this. Does the inequity among Americans yet concern people enough to make some changes. People will take a lot of abuse but I am afraid we are coming very close to the tipping point. When we cross that threshold it may be ugly. If we study history (which is simply the nature of people) it shows us that when things start to go badly they move quickly and often the pendulum will swing quite far in the opposite direction until society finds equilibrium. Look at the Russian or French revolution. I am concerned that history also shows that society seldom gives up it privileges without a fight.

We really need to understand how Donald Trump won the presidency. He represented a large group of very angry and frustrated people. It won’t take much to turn civil disobedience into a really serious problem for the police and for society.

I hope we deal with the inequities within our society and deal with them fairly or we will all pay a high price for our hubris.

Tampa Division: Cyber Security for us ALL

Recently we all became once again aware of cyber crime. When the CIA and the FBI are concerned I am sure it is a time for the rest of us to increase our awareness and begin to think a little more about defenses. WikiLeaks recently released a significant number of secret files allegedly from the CIA. If they can get hacked then so can we. Granted we are not the alluring target that they are but for some we would be interesting enough. I am not a big fan of super security because those of us who use the internet are no match for those professionals who do this full time with a great financial incentive to defeat our protection. I do believe that we must align ourselves with big defensible systems like banks, and large organizations. Smaller entities have had to do this for protection from the beginning of time. Animals lean to pack or herd together for protection and so must we. The other thing to remember is don’t put your valuables on line where they can be stolen. We all love the technology but lets not be so foolish to invest everything we have in it. Have some cash, have some paper copies of your important papers. In the changing fotunes of time I believe we will find it to be a good investment.
